Spurs fans have been discussing former player Darren Anderton on Twitter this week.
Spurs fan Pochology asked supporters of the North London club for their opinions on the midfielder, who retired from football in December 2008. In his career, the now 48-year-old made 318 appearances for the Lilywhites while scoring 40 goals from his usual position of right-wing.
Anderton also earned 30 England caps during his career; scoring seven goals for his national side. However, it seems as if he struggled with injuries during his time with Spurs, as he earned the nickname ‘sicknote’, which can be seen regularly in the replies to the tweet.
Who was more of a sicknote?
Anderton
Erik Lamela
A sample of tweets from Spurs fans discussing Anderton can be seen in the tweets below.
A lot like Lamela, you had to catch him on the very rare days he was fit but sicknote was a much better player

Darren Anderton was a class player. The stick he used to get regarding his injuries were very harsh. He could take on players, Great work rate and brilliant technical ability.

These Spurs fans seem to be in agreement that Anderton was a quality player who’s injury problems prevented him from being really top class.
What do we think?
One fan compared Anderton with Erik Lamela, who has also struggled with injuries throughout his career with the North London club, so hopefully, the Argentine winger can start to avoid injury problems so that after he retires he’s also not referred to as ‘sicknote’.
