Some Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to share support for Jetro Willems in response to a tweet which was recently posted by the 25-year-old who is currently recovering from injury.

Willems was ruled out for “the rest of the season” following the Magpies’ 1-0 win over Chelsea on the 18th of January. The 25-year-old left the field just 15 minutes into Newcastle’s victory over Chelsea this past January.

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce described Willems’ injury as “horrendous” following the match, going on to state that he feared “it’s his cruciate”, according to Sky Sports. The Magpies’ official club website later confirmed that Willems suffered a “cruciate knee ligament injury” in their win over Chelsea.

Willems’ recent tweet shares footage of himself rehabilitating from his knee injury in a pool. Some Newcastle supporters have flocked to the 25-year-old’s tweet to show support for him during his recovery. What was the score on the 29th of February between Newcastle and Burnley?

What do we think?

Willems originally signed for the Magpies in the 2019 summer transfer window on a season-long loan deal from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt. Upon joining the Magpies, Sky Sports reported that Newcastle “have the option to sign the 25-year-old international left-back on a permanent deal at the end of the 2019-20 campaign”.

Willems earned an average overall rating of 6.84 in his 19 Premier League appearances for Newcastle United this season, according to WhoScored.com, making two league assists and scoring two league goals for the club.

Only four Newcastle players have earned a higher average overall rating for the club than Willems in the 2019/20 Premier League campaign, according to WhoScored.

It may be fair to say that the 25-year-old, who is currently valued at £6.30m according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, has made a positive impact during his time on-loan at Newcastle this term. Despite his injury, some Newcastle fans may still want to see their club bring the 25-year-old to St. James’ Park on a permanent deal.
