A lot of Newcastle United fans have responded to the news that their club have handed new contracts to Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie.
The Toon confirmed that the duo’s new deals will run till the summer of 2023, and this has not gone down well with these Newcastle fans who feel underwhelmed by the news.

Underwhelming to say the least

Think it is crazy both of these players getting new contracts. Both haven’t performed consistently in my opinion. Should be concentrating on getting the Longstaff brothers signed up.

Fully bought in to mediocrity. Great ambition fighting relegation and aiming for promotion from Championship for 3 years. Those 2 have gave up.

Shelvey – good
Ritchie – Im going to be sick— NUFC (@3GoalsSoFar) March 6, 2020
What do we think?
Shelvey joined Newcastle in January 2016 and has made 130 appearances for the Toon, and he is their top Premier League goalscorer this season with five.
The 28-year-old said that he feels at home on Tyneside – so we think that extending the former Swansea City man’s deal is good news.
Ritchie joined the Toon in the summer of 2016 and has made 139 appearances for Newcastle in which he has scored 22 goals and provided 26 assists.
The 30-year-old is considered to be an important part of the dressing room, and we think keeping him on Tyneside for a few more years could be a good thing for team spirit.
