Fans of Manchester City have been reacting to footage posted on Twitter, which highlights Vincent Kompany’s long-range drive in Manchester City’s 1-0 victory over Leicester City in 2019.
Kompany, who joined Manchester City from Hamburger SV in 2008, spent 11 seasons with the Citizens, playing 360 games and scoring 20 goals.
Arguably, the most important of the 33-year-old’s goals for City was his last, in the centre-back’s final season with the club in 2019/20.
With City trailing Liverpool in the Premier League table by two points with just two fixtures remaining of the season, City knew that a win against Leicester would mean their chances of retaining the title would remain in their own hands on the final day of the season.
However, a spirited performance by Leicester saw Man City struggle to break the Foxes down, with the game remaining goalless well into the second half.
Then, on the 70th-minute mark, City captain Kompany picked the ball up, strode forwards, and unleashed a thunderous drive from 25-yards out, flying past Kasper Schmeichel and into the top corner of the Leicester City goal.
Kompany’s goal proved the difference, with City going on to win the game 1-0, as well as their game against Brighton on the final day of the season, ensuring that the club retained their Premier League title.
After Manchester City News posted footage of the goal on Twitter, fans of the club flocked to the replies, with many recalling their disbelief at the strike, while others stated their desire for their former captain to return to the club.

What do we think?
Vincent Kompany was a fantastic servant to Manchester City over his 11 years a the club, winning four Premier League titles, four League Cups and two FA Cups and two Community Shields.
As such, the fact that the centre-back’s final goal for the club effectively sealed the title for City is something that appears incredibly fitting.
