Liverpool fans have been responding to the latest club announcement surrounding the Reds’ Champions League showdown with Atletico Madrid at Anfield in midweek.
This comes after the official Liverpool Twitter account shared a post on their page reminding their fans that “flares, smoke bombs and pyrotechnics are illegal and prohibited” at the stadium.
Should flares be banned from football matches?
Yes, they're dangerous
No, they're cool
This post then gathered a lot of replies from Liverpool fans who were eager to have their say on the matter.
Here’s a sample of Liverpool fans responding to the post:
Ahead of Wednesday night's @ChampionsLeague match against @Atleti, #LFC would like to remind supporters that flares, smoke bombs and pyrotechnics are illegal and prohibited. https://t.co/qdjsobqvKc

One fan even stated that Atletico Madrid are in trouble, which perhaps relates to them being known to welcome their side with flares.

The first leg of the round of 16 tie saw Liverpool fall to a 1-0 defeat thanks to an early goal from Saul Niguez in Madrid. Now in preparation for the second leg showdown at Anfield, this latest announcement from the club warning their fans about the use of flares and other pyrotechnics on the day of the match didn’t really hit home with a lot of Liverpool fans who felt the need to share their reactions to the warning.
Atletico did it, why shouldn’t we? ‘Illegal’ who cares , we don’t wanna look like some losers who just chant songs, look at what the atleti fans did to greet our bus. We need to be even better. Couldn’t care less.

Lol??? we get the message Admin.
— Grey Kones (@colkon) March 10, 2020
What do we think?
It seems very unlikely that this message from the Liverpool Twitter account will deter every fan from bringing a flare or some other pyrotechnic device to create an atmosphere at the game. At the end of the day, the result on the pitch at the end of the game will be more important to the club and the fans than any flares.
