Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been the subject of some criticism from the club’s former defender Don Hutchison. Speaking on ESPN FC back in January, the 48-year-old claimed that the Egyptian attacker struggles to do the basic things in the game well.
Hutchison, who made over 200 Premier League appearances himself (via Transfermarkt.co.uk) has seen his comments resurface in a tweet by @AnfieldEdition on Twitter.
What have some of the club’s fans made of the comments?
He needs to practice his passing, learning how to hold a ball and fend off defenders.

I get what he’s saying, there’s been many times when Salah literally can’t make a simple pass, but he can do the unthinkable so you take the good with the bad

He is so right.

Mo is such a strange one, he actually does so much of the basic wrong with the ball. But his movement off it and his persistence usually always pays off for him, his numbers compare to Messi but he isnt on that level because Messi only needs half the chances Mo gets. It’s mad.

Absolutely spot on….his basic football skills are appalling….can’t disagree with his goals.

So accurate.

He’s frustrating at times, but he’s our best goal scorer, so we have to trust him

I get what hes saying to be fair, he makes so many unforced errors and the numbers show it, but hes still a genius.

Bang on Don, you can’t be anymore correct about how he has been playing since last one year or so.

What do we think?
It appears there are plenty of Liverpool supporters who agree with the former Scotland international. Salah is currently valued at £135m despite the club having paid just £37.8m to sign him from Roma back in 2017 (via Transfermarkt.co.uk).
According to WhoScored.com, his average performance rating in the Premier League this season currently stands at 7.45/10, highlighting the former Chelsea player’s consistency. He’s scored 20 goals in 40 appearances so far this season and therefore we believe the shortcomings highlighted by Hutchison can – and probably should – be overlooked when he’s providing that sort of goal return.
