Some Leicester City fans have recently identified former Foxes midfielder Gokhan Inler as the player who proved their “initial opinion wrong the most” in response to a tweet that was recently posted by Leicester City fan account @FIRST4LCFC.

Some Foxes supporters named the 35-year-old former Switzerland international as the player whose time at the King Power Stadium didn’t quite work out exactly as they’d anticipated.

Inler joined Leicester City from Napoli in August 2015 for a fee of £6.3m, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk. The Swiss midfielder was touted as a “replacement for Esteban Cambiasso” by the BBC upon joining Leicester. However, Inler ultimately left Leicester a year later in August 2016 as he joined Turkish side Besiktas on a free transfer

A number of Leicester fans have recently been sharing their view that Inler’s time at the club didn’t turn out how they had imagined it would. Read the posts from some Leicester City fans who have identified Inler as the player who proved their “initial opinion wrong the most” in the tweets below.

Who holds the record of having scored the quickest goal in Premier League history?

What do we think?

It may be fair to say that Inler arrived at Leicester City ahead of the 2015/16 season having performed impressively for Napoli in the previous season’s Europa League competition. According to WhoScored.com, Inler earned an average overall rating of 7.25 from his 11 games for Napoli during their 2014/15 Europa League campaign which saw them reach the semi-finals of that season’s competition.

However, despite paying £6.30m for the player, Inler made just 10 appearances for Leicester in the 2015/16 campaign, with only five of those coming in the Premier League. With that in mind, it may be understandable why some Leicester fans were disappointed by Inler’s tenure at the King Power Stadium.
