Fans of Everton have been reacting to quotes from Mason Holgate that were posted to the club’s official Twitter account.
On Wednesday, the Toffees posted quotes from the Englishman in which he stated that he wants “to improve pretty much every area” of his game (via Everton), which had some fans praising the 23-year-old.

A big season so far for Mason, but the hard work never stops. #EFC ?

Do you think that Mason Holgate has the potential to be Everton captain one day?Yes, he's got a big futureNo, he's not good enough |
Over the duration of this season, the defender has been the Toffees’ eighth-best performer in the Premier League with a 6.73/10 average rating (per WhoScored).
However, after the 4-0 defeat to Chelsea last time out (per BBC), some supporters were feeling far more critical of the defender than others.
Not good enough for us to be a top 4 side

He never makes a pass to his left. Lucas Digne feeling very ignored on Sunday.

Why didn’t he begin on Sunday,then ?
— torreblue (@torreblue) March 11, 2020
He played on Saturday like Sean Bean in “When Saturday Comes”. Probably celebrating his new contract to much, but he has been consistently good this season and hes earned his new contract

What do we think?
To write off Holgate, who is valued at £15.3 million (as per Transfermarkt), after the 4-0 defeat to Chelsea seems a little harsh as all teams are capable of off days, so, he should not be judged on his last game alone.
Over the duration of the season, the Englishman has proven himself to be a reliable performer (per WhoScored) and from his quotes, it is clear that he has the right mentality (per Everton), so, that should be treated like a positive.
