Fans of Everton have been left delighted following an admission from Carlo Ancelotti on one of the Toffees’ defenders, Mason Holgate.

On Friday, the club posted a quote from an interview with their Italian gaffer in which he was debating if the English 23-year-old could be captain in future, to which he stated: “Potentially, yes” (per Everton), which fans loved.

On Tuesday, it was announced by the Toffees that the 23-year-old had signed a new contract at Goodison Park that will keep him in Merseyside until 2025 (per Everton).
Having been the Toffees’ seventh-best performer in the league so far this term, with a solid 6.76/10 average rating (per WhoScored), supporters were delighted with Ancelotti’s admission.

What do we think?
Due to his strong average rating in the Premier League having proved his reliability this season (per WhoScored), it is clear that Holgate has strong potential.
What is also clear is that Everton supporters highly rate the 23-year-old and many would be delighted to see the star installed as captain at Goodison Park one day.
