Some West Brom fans have been reacting on social media to Chris Brunt’s recent comments, as the 35-year-old midfielder claims that he doesn’t ‘expect to be at West Brom next season’.

As per Birmingham Mail, the Baggies midfielder described feeling “frustrated” at his lack of first-team opportunities this season, before admitting that he is aware he doesn’t have many years left in him as a professional footballer.

This season is Brunt’s 13th season as a West Brom player, having joined the club in August 2007 from Sheffield Wednesday for a transfer fee of £3.38m. Brunt has made a total of 419 first-team appearances for the Baggies, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, scoring 49 goals and making 89 assists.

West Brom-focused Twitter account @wbalatest shared Brunt’s recent comments regarding his uncertain future via a tweet. This drew the attention of some West Brom fans who have taken the opportunity to show their appreciation for Brunt’s 13 seasons of service at The Hawthorns. What do we think?

Brunt has seen his playing time significantly reduced this season. The 35-year-old has made just five substitute appearances so far during The Baggies’ 2019/20 Championship campaign, having yet to start a single game for West Brom in the league this season.

Brunt’s role with the Baggies has seen a significant reduction in importance compared to just last season, when the midfielder made 34 Championship appearances for the Baggies, including 24 starts. Despite playing less football this season, Brunt has admitted that the majority of new manager Slaven Bilic’s decisions this season “have worked out well for the team”, which is a difficult point to argue against with the club currently sitting at the top of the Championship table

Given the 35-year-old’s significant reduction in first-team football this season, we feel it may be understandable for the Baggies midfielder to call his future at the club into question.
