Aston Villa fans have taken aim at Douglas Luiz on Twitter after his performance in the club’s latest defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
This comes after Villa fan Twitter account @VillaViews_ shared a post on their page claiming that Luiz is “not fit to lace Foden’s boots” referencing that the Brazilian midfielder supposedly has a buy-back clause following his move from Manchester City, where Phil Foden is slowly making a name for himself.
Did Villa make a mistake signing Douglas Luiz?
Yes, he's been useless
No, he's been okay
This post then gathered a number of other replies from Villa fans who were keen to share their own criticisms for the midfielder.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans responding to the post:

Too true. Absolute waste of money. Same can be said about most of our summer signings

Such a liability, if he’s not making a mistake he’s losing the ball

Douglas Luiz with yet another ‘clown of the match’ performance but fans will be telling you he’s talented loooool

The 21-year-old, who is currently valued at £18 million according to Transfermarkt, joined the Birmingham club in the previous summer transfer window in a deal worth £15.12 million. At this point of the season, Luiz has made 32 appearances for Dean Smith’s side in all competitions, scoring just three goals and providing two assists (per Transfermarkt). After his latest appearance for Villa in the 4-0 defeat at Leicester resulted in Luiz being given a match rating of just 5.7 (per WhoScored), this has given lots of Villa fans the opportunity to slate Luiz for his poor display.
He can’t lace his own boots.

Totally agree, what does he actually do?
— Moods (@ademoody1) March 9, 2020
Yet week after week he gets in the starting 11, how?

What do we think?
Luiz’s performance in the defeat at Leicester just wasn’t good enough in a team that are currently fighting for their Premier League survival. If Luiz wants to keep his place at Villa for the future, he will need to step his quality up in what is a very critical period of the season for Villa.
