In an interview with the official Leeds website, United midfielder Adam Forshaw has provided an update on his recovery from the hip injury that has kept him out for the majority of the Championship season.

The 28-year-old first injured the joint between his hip and groin in a pre-season friendly against Cagliari, however, he managed to continue playing for seven Championship fixtures, until, in the fixture against Charlton Athletic back in September, the injury worsened.

Against which team did Leeds record their biggest home win?

After Forshaw struggled to regain fitness and suffered several setbacks in his recovery, the decision was made to send the midfielder to a specialist in the USA to operate on his hip, and Forshaw has been speaking to the Leeds website about his recovery from the surgery.

He stated: “I’m seven weeks since the operation now which was a success and everything is going well. I feel good, I’m on track so far and the plan was always to be ready for the start of next season.

“The support everyone in the medical team has given me has been brilliant, they’ve stuck by me in what has been a terrible season for me in terms of injuries, they really have all been great.”

He continued: “Obviously it is their job and protocol, but they genuinely do care and want the best for me, they’ve helped me so much and hopefully I can get back as soon as possible.”

As such, it would appear that Forshaw is well on track for a return to football over the coming months, and with the current uncertainty surrounding the football season as to if/when it will resume, Leeds fans could yet see their midfielder take the field in the current season.

Indeed, this could be interpreted as some hugely positive news for Marcelo Bielsa and the Whites as the 28-year-old has been rather influential whilst at the Elland Road outfit. Last season, he played in 31 Championship matches and achieved averages of 2.2 tackles per game, 0.6 interceptions and 0.5 clearances, whilst also providing 0.9 key passes and 0.8 shots at goal per match (per WhoScored).

Thus, the added bite that the former Middlesbrough man could bring back to the Argentine’s midfield may only be seen as a positive should the season restart and their quest for Premier League football continue.
