Phil Hay has confirmed in a live Q&A that a deal for Adidas to be Leeds United’s new kit manufacturer starting from next season is done.

The Athletic reporter was asked about the story that was first unveiled by David Coverdale in the Daily Mail in January.

How long was Kiko Casilla banned for by the FA?

Hay said that he believes that this is now a done deal and that it is a long-term agreement that will see the German company replace Kappa in the summer.

He was asked:

“Any news on Adidas?”

He replied:

“A done deal from what I’m told. Long-term agreement to start in the summer, replacing Kappa.”

What do we think?

This update from Hay could explain why Marcelo Bielsa has been spotted twice this week in all Adidas gear.

However, it could just be a total coincidence and the two incidences might not be related.

We do think that this deal for Leeds could be massive as Adidas are worth $6.8 billion (£5.2 billion) and are considered the third-most valuable sports brand in the world only behind Nike and ESPN in terms of their value.

This is also a big opportunity for Adidas considering that Leeds, by the 29th of January, had already sold 110,000 replica shirts this season.

The main thing now is whether the Whites can achieve promotion?

We think that the best way to show off their new kit to the world next season would be in the Premier League.

So, can the current squad get them into the top flight?

There are nine games to go, and Leeds have a seven-point gap over third place – so they are in a good position.

Still, can they now finish the job and ensure that Leeds will be wearing their new Adidas shirts in the Premier League and not the Championship?
