Noel Whelan believes that Leeds United should be looking at Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic in the summer.

Speaking to Football Insider, the Whites’ former striker thinks that Mitrovic will be on the radar of Marcelo Bielsa and that he would be a shrewd signing.

At what date do the EFL intend to resume matches after temporarily suspending games due to the viral outbreak?

Whelan said: “Do we want more tried and tested? Do we want a different style of player?

“I would be looking at Mitrovic. He has got the fight and the scoring ability and capability of being a difference. Someone who is a handful, someone a bit bigger and stronger. He is better from wide areas and that is where the majority of our play comes from. I think Mitrovic would be one that Leeds will be looking at.

“They paid £27 million for him and for £35 million it would be a good capture. He is a proven goalscorer, can hold the ball up and he would love the number of crosses we put in the box.”

Do you want Mitrovic at Elland Road?

Yes, could be a great signing

No, don't want him

No, don't want him

What do we think?

Mitrovic is the Championship’s top goalscorer this season with 23 goals, and Transfermarkt values him at £22.5m.

However, he only just signed a new deal last summer that will last until 2024, and Fulham did pay Newcastle United a fee of up to £27m for him in the summer of 2018.

So, we are not sure where Whelan has got his figure of £35m from, but to us, that seems a bit low, and that is because Mitrovic, has scored 35 goals in just 51 appearances for Fulham in the Championship.

He has proven to be a reliable goalscorer at this level, and if Scott Parker’s men want to be playing Premier League football again anytime soon, then we would think they would need Mitrovic.

If Leeds were to get promoted and Fulham missed out, then maybe the lure of top-flight football could convince Mitrovic to swap London for Leeds.

However, until all that is sorted out, it is hard to speculate.
