This past weekend, Sunderland fans saw their side beat Oxford 1-0 in League One. It was the club’s seventh clean sheet in their last eight games.

However, while the three points were achieved, Sunderland were dealt a blow when Bailey Wright was withdrawn in the 84th minute due to an ankle injury. Having joined the side on loan in January, Wright quickly became a regular in Phil Parkinson’s back-three.

It now appears as though Wright’s ankle injury will keep him out of the lineup for between eight and 12 weeks.

Sunderland fan account Speak Sunderland questioned whether supporters would be willing to offer Wright a full-time contract at the end of the season. As mentioned above, Wright is currently only playing for Sunderland on loan and is set to return to Bristol City in the summer.

Some fans are unconvinced that they should sign Wright. The injury problems worry them.

Others admit that signing Wright permanently would depending on which league the club was playing in next season.

What do we think?

When Sunderland officially announced the signing of Wright on their website, there was no mention of there being an option for the Black Cats to purchase the player permanently at the end of the deal. If there is an option for Sunderland to purchase the player, however, injury history is certainly something the club must surely take into consideration.
