The Premier League must feel a long way away for Sunderland fans at the moment. They were only in England’s top flight three seasons ago, though, dropping down to the Championship at the end of the 2016/2017 season. The quality of the team has dropped further, with the side now competing in League One. Gone are the days of Sunderland glory, for now.
But that hasn’t stopped some Black Cats fans from reminiscing about their favourite former players. Yesterday, on his 48th birthday, Sunderland supporters reacted to a brilliant video of ex-goalkeeper Mart Poom scoring a thunderous header against Derby County to equalise in the 90th minute in a Division One clash in September 2003.
The SAFC support couldn’t believe just how good of a header it actually was. One supporter calls it the best header he has ever seen from any player – not just a goalkeeper.

Who would you rather have up top for Sunderland right now?
Poom
Grigg
What do we think?
With the goalscoring record that Sunderland have at the moment, perhaps they could use someone like Poom up top? The side have been shut out eight times in Phil Parkinson’s 22 games in charge, and have only scored more than once on four occasions.
The club have the best defensive record in the league, only conceding 26 goals from 28 matches. Perhaps it is time for Sunderland’s current crop of goalkeepers to start chipping in with goals of their own? Will Grigg apparently needs all the help he can get, only scoring once in 19 league games.
