Some Bristol City fans have spoken glowingly about Brentford’s Said Benrahma, with many of them claiming that the attacker is the ‘best opposition player’ they’ve seen this season.

Benrahma has drawn attention due to the quality of his performances with Brentford this season. The BBC’s Stanley Kwenda noted that the Algerian has piqued the interest of clubs ‘already in the Premier League’. However, in an interview with BBC Sport, Benrahma made it clear that he is ‘focused on Brentford’ at present, despite reportedly drawing interest from top-flight clubs.

Bristol City fans haven’t shied away from praising the rival player. In response to a question posed by @bristolcitylive on Twitter, some Robins fans have shared their view that Benrahma is the best opposition player they’ve seen this season.

Supporters may have been swayed by the 24-year-old’s impressive performance against them in their most recent meeting, when Benrahma scored against the Robins in their New Year’s Day clash. Furthermore, Whoscored.com gave the Algerian an impressive 9.0 rating for his performance that day at Ashton Gate, as the Bees earned a resounding 4-0 win.

Other names that were mentioned included Huddersfield Town’s Juninho Bacuna, Birmingham City’s Jude Bellingham and Ovie Ejaria of Reading – however, the Brentford attacker was heavily favoured by the Robins faithful here.

What do we think?

Benrahma has scored nine goals and made five assists in the Championship this season. Furthermore, he has earned an average rating of 7.38 in his 30 Championship appearances this season, according to Whoscored.com

The website has given just five Championship players a higher average rating than the Brentford man (of those with over 15 league appearances), with the league’s highest-rated player – Eberechi Eze of Queens Park Rangers – currently rated just 0.07 points higher than Benrahma at present.

Benrahma has evidently played an important role for fourth-placed Brentford this season, as the Bees look to challenge for promotion to the Premier League. It may be very fair to argue that the Algerian should be named amongst the Championship’s top players at the moment, given his performances this season.
