Some Birmingham City fans have called for Jude Bellingham to take up a more attacking position for the Blues in place of injured Scott Hogan.

According to Whoscored.com, Birmingham City’s 16-year-old wonderkid Jude Bellingham has played in a large variety of different positions for the Blues’ first team this season. Though playing the majority of his games in central midfield, Bellingham has also played featured frequently for the Blues at left-midfield, as well as right-midfield, defensive midfield, attacking midfield and even once as a centre forward this season.

Some Blues fans have called for the youngster to assume a more attacking role once more, following the recent injury to centre forward Hogan. Birmingham City’s official Twitter account confirmed this week that their January loan signing suffered an ankle injury in the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Brentford this past weekend, which would need “further assessment”.

Birmingham manager Pep Clotet confirmed that Hogan’s ankle was “swollen” following the Blues’ draw with Brentford at the weekend. According to the Birmingham Mail, Clotet admitted that his side “cannot afford any injuries” at the moment, with the Blues’ squad looking “a little bit thin”.

Should Jude Bellingham partner Lukas Jutkiewicz in Scott Hogan's absence?

Indeed, Birmingham could be left with few options up top, despite favouring a 4-4-2 system this season. Read the replies of some Birmingham City fans suggesting that Bellingham should partner Lukas Jutkiewicz if Hogan is ruled out due to injury in the tweets below.

What do we think?

Bellingham’s versatility has been useful for Birmingham this season, with the 16-year-old featuring in a variety of different roles for the Blues in his 29 Championship appearances.

With four Championship goals to his name this season, Bellingham is currently the Blues’ joint second-highest goalscorer this season – only Birmingham’s regular centre forward Jutkiewicz has netted more times than Bellingham for the Blues. If Hogan is ruled out for a period of time due to injury, Bellingham could be the man Clotet turns to.
