Supporters of West Ham United were left furious following quotes made by former man Steve Lomas on the club’s current ownership.
During an exclusive interview with The Sun, the former player urged Hammers fans to stop protesting against the club’s current ownership and labelled anyone who thinks that the owners want the club to struggle as an “idiot”, which had fans furious.

It’s not about them wanting us to struggle, but their actions have caused it. Flat out refusal to own up to their mistakes isn’t helping their cause

Zero time for Lomas now. Gale the same. Trying to divide support, club tactics.

Not good to generalise and call people idiots when he is not working a full week of proper work, travels to the ground by train and walk and pays out money week in week out to watch top level incompetence from the board

Do you agree or disagree with what Steve Lomas had to say?Agree, he makes a very good pointDisagree, he misses the point entirely |
The retired Northern Ireland midfielder spent eight years playing for the Hammers between 1997 and 2005, having arrived from Manchester City and departing for Queens Park Rangers (per Transfermarkt).
Lomas made 206 appearances for the London club, during which he scored 11 and assisted 10 (per Transfermarkt), however, while some fans agreed with the 46-year-old’s argument, they felt he was missing the point.
I agree to a point. Of course the owners don’t WANT us to struggle. They want to make as much money for themselves as possible. However, what they have and more importantly haven’t done is causing us to struggle. That’s the point.

I agree they’re not malicious in their intent but they are incompetent and that is just as bad if not worse.

Hes completely missed the point. Despite their (misguided) best intentions, they are unable to tun the club successfully. That’s it. They are not good enough to be a top class footballing outfit. It’s simple and one of the problems is they are surrounded by half baked yes men.

What do we think?
It seems that fans have hit the nail on the head here – of course, the current ownership would surely not want the club to fail as there would be absolutely nothing in that for them.
Fans pay their hard-earned money to watch their football team play and they will certainly cause a fuss if they do not feel that it is value for money (as per The Guardian), while adding insult to injury by labelling some as “idiots” is a little condescending.
