Football.london has published a report about players in the various Tottenham Hotspur youth sides who could make an impact on the first team in 2020.

Seven players are given detailed sections, but at the bottom, there is one player who particularly stands out because of who he is compared to, with Alasdair Gold placing him in the ‘others to watch’ section.

Will Markanday be more of a success than Edwards at Tottenham?

Dilan Markanday is an 18-year-old who is said to have bags of tricks, a low centre of gravity and dribbling ability that ‘evokes memories of Marcus Edwards‘.

The report claims that he needs to add an end product to match his skills, but if he does that, then he will get noticed.

Here’s exactly what Alasdair Gold had to say:

“Dilan Markanday has a bag of tricks and with his low centre of gravity and dribbling ability, evokes memories of Marcus Edwards. The 18-year-old needs to add the end product to match his skills and if he does he will get noticed.”

What do we think?

Edwards departed Spurs in the summer for a move to Portugal to play for Vitoria, and since then, he has scored six goals and provided four assists.

However, things could have worked out so differently for the 21-year-old.

Mauricio Pochettino said that Edwards reminded him of Lionel Messi, but he could never reach that level and had problems in the defensive side of the game – with coaches having to battle with him to fulfil his defensive duties.

A loan move to Norwich City didn’t work out, and by the time he left the club, he had only managed one senior appearance for the club.

If Markanday is to be the next Edwards, then he will have to hope that he can make more than one senior appearance.

It looks like he has the skills, but can he apply them better than Edwards did?

Certainly, this 18-year-old is someone for Spurs fans to keep an eye on as the year progresses.
