Spurs fans have been slating Lucas Moura on Twitter after his perceived poor performance against Manchester City in the 2-0 win on Sunday.
Despite the Brazilian registering an assist for Steven Bergwijn’s goal and earning an impressive 7.64 rating on Whoscored, it seems as if fans were less than impressed with his contributions. The former PSG man has not had the greatest of seasons for the North London club; averaging a 6.82 rating in all competitions, so it is a surprise to see so many fans critical of the 27-year-old after what looked to be a rare good performance against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Since signing from PSG in January 2018, Moura has gone on to make 91 appearances for Spurs; contributing 22 goals and nine assists. The Brazilian international was seemingly underused by previous manager Mauricio Pochettino but has been a regular thus far under Jose Mourinho, with Sunday’s match against last year’s Champions his 30th game of the season.
Do you think Moura played poorly against Manchester City?

Moura is Andros Townsend and Dele Alli is Andy Booth #thfc

Yes agreed, Moura will always be a sub at best. We got away with missing Kane in the past as Son, Alli and Eriksen were in form and scoring. We wont get away with it now. Alli has gone to pot and Son has been poor for the majority of an entire year.

Not quite sure why Lucas refuses to press. Its annoying to watch it week in and week out. #THFC

Lucas Moura should not be starting. How’s Jose not realised this? #THFC

Drop Alli & Lucas for ndombele & lamela and I think we will be ok #thfc

These Spurs fans were clearly disappointed with Moura’s performance and will be hoping to see better from him in the coming weeks.
What do we think?
Some of the criticism of Moura, who is valued at £36 million (as per Transfermarkt), seems harsh, especially considering he spent much of the match playing as a centre-forward which is not his natural position. His assist for Bergwijn’s goal was excellent and it warranted that 7.64 rating from Whoscored.
