Contrary to reports that emerged earlier in the week, the Saudi Arabian-backed consortium that has been linked with taking over Newcastle United are still focused on securing a deal for the club. Football Insider had previously suggested that the group had become frustrated by the lack of progress and were preparing to turn their attentions to West Ham United instead.
However, according to the Shields Gazette, that isn’t the case, and a deal for Newcastle United is still very much a possibility. The supporters have been desperate to see the club change hands for quite some time, but remain cautious given the conflicting reports in the media.
Is the takeover going to happen this year?

If there is no video or proof of her saying this directly, then again, it’s no news #NUFC #nufctakeover

Really don’t see how it is taking this long. Ashley wants £350m or whatever…these guys own about 20 times that at the very least. How has it not got to the stage of a press release saying it is sold and they are just going through formalities. Taking longer than a VAR decision!

Just get on wit it and buy the club

What do we think?
Until the deal is done and dusted, has been announced publicly and Mike Ashley is no longer in control, we’d advise caution to those planning their celebratory parties. Having safely navigated their way through to the fifth round of the FA Cup, Steve Bruce’s side are currently enjoying some time off before they prepare to take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on February 16th.
