Having defeated Norwich City in the Premier League at Carrow Road on Saturday evening, Liverpool will now turn their attentions to their UEFA Champions League clash versus Atletico Madrid. The Reds are the current holders, and given their commanding position domestically, there is no reason why they can’t successfully defend their crown.
Jurgen Klopp’s side will travel to the Wanda Metropolitano, the venue of last season’s final, to take on Diego Simeone’s side. The Madrid-based club’s form hasn’t been great of late, winning just one of their last five La Liga fixtures.
Will Liverpool register another victory in Madrid?
Yes
No
Atletico were finalists back in 2014 and 2016, but were defeated by their city rivals Real Madrid on both occasions.
How are the Anfield fans feeling ahead of the first leg? It appears some are wary of their round-of-16 opponents:
Finally! ?
I think we will nick a win on Tuesday but it could be tough and ugly game. It will be similar to the Flamengo one at CWC.
And Atletico scores only 24 goals btw?— Jürgen Meister?? (@SS_LFC) February 17, 2020
We need to be very clinical and defensively strong aganist Atletico. Some of our defensive frailties as a whole are still there we’ve been lucky the opponent have not taken their chances in UCL we could get punished easily because opponents are of much higher qualities.

Whereas, these fans seem far less nervous regarding the threat that Atletico Madrid pose to their side.

What do we think?
Despite Atletico Madrid’s poor league form of late, we think Diego Simeone’s tactical awareness could make this a difficult trip for the Premier League leaders. He has proven in the two aforementioned finals that he can take an unfancied team to great heights. If Liverpool perform to the best of their ability, we feel they may be too strong for the Spanish club – but if they are not at the races, Los Rojiblancos could be waiting to take advantage.
