Fans of Everton have taken to Twitter to gush over Mason Holgate following a club post after the 3-2 victory over Watford on Saturday.

The day after the win, the club posted to their official Twitter account boasting over the defender’s stats from the clash with the Hornets (as per Everton), which led many fans to follow suit.

A couple of fans even mentioned John Stones, who used to ply his trade at Goodison Park and made 95 appearances for the Toffees. He joined from Barnsley back in 2013 but never really had the chance to reach his full potential at Everton as Manchester City snapped him up the summer of 2016.

Do you believe that Mason Holgate will captain Everton one day?

Yes, he's a star-in-the-making

No, he's good but not that good

So far this term, the Englishman has featured in 22 games in all competitions, in which he has scored one goal and assisted three (per Transfermarkt).

Over the course of the season, the 23-year-old has an average rating of 6.84/10 (per WhoScored), leaving many fans full of praise for the club’s prodigy.

What do we think?

While the Englishman began the season on the periphery of the Toffees’ starting squad (per Transfermarkt), it is absolutely clear that he is making his mark now.

As can be judged from the response, supporters are delighted with the 23-year-old and if he continues on his current trajectory he could be a big player for Carlo Ancelotti.
