Fans of Everton have aired their fury after footage was posted to Twitter of a goal scored by Duncan Ferguson in 2005 which was disallowed.
On Thursday, the goal – which was scored against Villarreal in a Champions League qualifier, but then bizarrely overruled – was shared to Twitter by @mia_finn_, which left Everton fans furious all over again (via The Gwladys Street).
THROWBACK THURSDAY:
Back in 2005, Pierluigi Collina ruled out this perfectly fine header by Duncan Ferguson in the Champions League qualifiers v Villarreal. The goal could have meant extra-time but the overruled decision resulted in Everton’s exit.#EFC https://t.co/FeVHNvxAll

I was there. Absolutely corrupt. Was absolutely gutted. Couldn’t even have a drink after it. Went straight to bed in a fowl mood ?

Was the disallowed goal evidence of corruption or just a bad decision?Total corruptionJust a bad decision |
Should the Toffees have won the game in 2005, they would have qualified for the Champions League group stages, however, the disallowed goal with the Spanish side leading 3-2 on aggregate and a late goal from Diego Forlan consigned David Moyes’ side to the UEFA Cup (per BBC).
With many still livid over the chalking off of the goal potentially costing them a place in the Champions League, they continued to air their fury.
Mind blowing decision on a par with Bryan Hamilton’s disallowed goal. Both decisions still are hard to take

What do we think?
Having watched the footage, it seems incredibly hard to pinpoint where there is a foul or any reason why Ferguson’s goal should be disallowed.
Understandably, this one cuts deep for Toffees fans as it would have been the first time Everton qualified for the competition since the 1970-71 season when it was known as the European Cup (per ToffeeWeb).
