Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react to an image of Douglas Luiz from Sunday’s defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.
This comes after Villa fan Twitter account @EliAVFC shared a post on their page that contained an image of a shot at goal that fell to Luiz right in front of the Spurs goal that was blocked by a defender during the match which ended 3-2 to Jose Mourinho’s side.
Should Luiz have scored his chance against Spurs?
Yes, he should have done better
No, it was good defending
This post then gathered a lot of replies from Villa fans who were not happy to be reminded of this golden chance for their side to score in the defeat.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans reacting to the post:

Some team goal that would’ve been.

Just seen this back. I can only think he opted to go central as loris was always going to dive in to the right hand side of the net. Tbh he had enough time to take a touch or steady himself and hit with his right. Too many time’s we got in the box and didn’t capitalise

Too much to take today

The chance came in the first half of the match as Villa looked to increase their early lead against the North-London club. After a nice move from Villa, Luiz’s resulting shot at goal was blocked by a Spurs defender. Now that this image has made the rounds on Twitter, this has given these Villa fans the opportunity to reflect on this moment in the match.
Plenty of the goal gaping to score that. Perhaps there was complacency or the fear of not hitting the target if he did aim for the corner. Gut wrenching moment!

This is when I knew we wouldn’t win, anytime something like that happens we always end up regretting it ?

Conor would have scored ?

What do we think?
Now that Villa lost the game, it’s no surprise that the fans have been reflecting negatively over what could have been a crucial goal in the match had Luiz had found the back of the net. While it may come as some comfort that Villa are at least creating these goal-scoring opportunities, they will now be wanting to see these type of chances being put away and resulting in goals.
