Sunderland fans can celebrate a rare victory after beating Lincoln Town 3-1 on the weekend. The win helps boost Phil Parkinson’s league position as he attempts to help the Black Cats achieve promotion to the Championship. The win puts Sunderland within touching distance of a playoff spot, something that seemed so far away just a few weeks ago (Sky Sports).
After the match, Sunderland’s Twitter posted a clip of defender Tom Flanagan sending a high pressing Lincoln Town player into the stands after a quick bit of skill. But some Sunderland fans were slightly embarrassed by their club’s post. They admit that the turn was good, but don’t think the club should be promoting Flanagan’s loss of possession right after. As soon as he loses his marker, he hoofs the ball up the field back to the Lincoln Town players.
All good apart from he can’t pass a ball to save his life- Definately not a ball-playing defender.

And then mindlessly hoofs the ball up pitch straight to the opposition to rebuild their attack…..football genius

He gave the ball away? Great highlight.

Typical Flanagan pass immediately after

Do you think Tom Flanagan is good enough for Sunderland?
Yes
No
One fan admits that the player actually played quite well in the first half. Another fan thinks it’s crazy to be hyping up the game at all. In his eyes, Sunderland didn’t play that well.
Aye class. Til he gives away possession with an aimless punt upfield.
Actually he had a tremendous first half, some class timing of tackles and a handful of excellent passes to add to the goal.

Shouldn’t be hyping this up. They were absolutely terrible and it’s embarrasing to even be on the same pitch as Lincoln in a league game when we should be in the third round of the fa cup

What do we think?
There is still a lot of building that needs to be done at Sunderland Football Club. It is clear that Sunderland fans expect more than a bit of skill every now and then. They want quality on a consistent basis. Hopefully, for them, that’s not too much to ask for.
