Sunderland have been linked with a few players this January. Gary Madine is one name being tossed around in the media as a potential incoming striker (Sunderland Echo). But one of the rumours that has gained the most amount of momentum recently in recent weeks has been Kyle Lafferty’s arrival at Sunderland (The Scotsman). According to the Daily Record, Lafferty has agreed to sign with Sunderland already.
When fans read this, they had mixed opinions. A few supporters think he is a great signing considering the club are currently in League One. He could be exactly what they need to get out of the league.
Not a big goal scorer, but he is a scorer or big goals if u get me? Big game player. Depends what mood he’s in really

Not really the player we want but a player we’ll probably need. He’s tall and strong, should be able to destroy those League One defenders, something we’re missing atm.

Short time signing but I think League 1 is his level. Did decent in Scotland and our previous signings from Scotland have been canny (McLaughlin, Mcgeough, Morgan etc.) Still think we need another striker with pace like.

Are you excited to see Kyle Lafferty play at the Stadium of Light?
Yes
No
Others are okay with the signing but worry that it means Madine won’t be signed. To them, that’s the player they preferred. Regardless of whether it is Madine or not, some suggest another striker is a must.
Good but I still want madine

Means Madine isnt happening which I’d have preferred. If we’re serious about promotion we should be signing someone who relegated Wyke to a back up role but I feel Lafferty will be Parkinson’s back up to Wyke if/when he gets injured #safc

Please don’t let this be the only forward we sign, he’s scored 1 in every 4 and half games he’s played, 1 goal in 6 months – we cannot repeat last season and go into the second half of the season with no inform forward who is scoring goals, surely we will learn from our mistakes.

What do we think?
Before Lafferty plays his first game for Sunderland, there will be a lot of fans eager for him to do well. It doesn’t matter what they think of him now. What matters is how he performs when he plays his first game.
