Some Sheffield Wednesday fans have been discussing the club’s alleged pursuit of Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham in the January transfer window.

The latest update from the Sheffield Star regarding the Owls’ chase for Wickham says that it is unlikely the club will move for both him and Eddie Nketiah unless there are some outgoings from the club in this very month. Jordan Rhodes himself has been linked with a move to Wigan Athletic and Celtic, the Star reports.

They also state that, according to reports in the national media, the Owls have have edged closer to the loan signing of Crystal Palace forward Connor Wickham over the weekend.

SWFC fans: Can the club make do without Wickham?

No chance, we need him

Regardless of the different developments involving Wickham, these fans appear to not want him.

Wickham is a former Wednesday player. He spent two loan spells at the club back in the 2013-14 campaign when he was at Sunderland. During his spells at Hillsborough, Wickham made a total of 17 appearances in all competitions for the club. He had racked up as many as nine goals and also had three assists to his name.

After that, Wickham had a loan spell at Leeds followed by a permanent move to Palace. During his time at Selhurst Park, Wickham has made 48 appearances in all competitions for the club.

This season, the former Ipswich Town man has made seven appearances in all competitions for the Eagles. He has scored once, assisting once. His goal this season came in the club’s recent 1-1 draw against Norwich City.

What do we think?

With Steven Fletcher currently out injured, Wednesday do need a striker this month or they are risking their promotion bid this season. A fit Wickham can still get them some goals that can prove to be crucial towards the end of the season. Considering he’s already been at the club, he can be an important player if he joins.
