As December becomes January and 2019 becomes 2020, many of Europe’s major leagues enter the second half of their season. And while most fans will be looking forward to April or May, when their respective teams find out their finish in their league, other fans will reflect on the weeks gone by. That was the case when Heart & Hands posted their player ratings for the first half of the 2019/2020 season.

The ranking system ordered the players based on their average player rating between the beginning of the season and the Gers’ victory a few weeks ago in the final game before the winter break. Ryan Jack topped the list with a 7.53 average player rating over 30 games, closely followed by Alfredo Morelos, Steven Davis, Borna Barisic and then Ryan Kent (Heart & Hand). At first glance, many fans were in agreement that Jack deserved to top the list. In his 30 games, he has scored five goals and recorded four assists.

Others are shocked at the low position of players like Glen Kamara. They reckon that he has been a rock in Steven Gerrard’s midfield during his 28 games. Another fan thinks Borna Barisic should be right at the top of the list. The Croatian left-back has assisted 13 goals from his 27 appearances this season. Some also question why captain James Tavernier is ranked so low. The English right-back, like Barisic, has been instrumental to his team’s success, contributing 12 assists in 35 games.

What do we think?

The first half of Rangers’ season has been brilliant. Gerrard’s side are currently pushing their rivals for first place in the Scottish Premiership. Despite being two points off the top spot, the Gers have a game in hand (Sky Sports). If they win it, they will move into undisputed first.
