Some Celtic fans have slammed the club’s CEO Peter Lawwell for trying to get the club to play in the Premier League and devise a secret plan about it.

The Scottish Sun recently reported that Lawwell and former Rangers chief Martin Bain had hatched a plan to quit the Scottish Premiership and join the Premier League back in 2011. The report goes onto talk about an exchange of emails between the two CEOs in an attempt to do the same in the previous decade.

Celtic fans: Should Celtic join the Premier League?

Never ever!

Never ever!

Some Hoops fans paid heed to this news. When a Celtic fan called Joe McHugh posted about it on social media, many other Bhoys fans were fuming at Lawwell for his acts.

Lawwell had initially been the Hoops’ financial controller back in 1991 and became the Chief Executive of the club in 2003. Premier League giants Arsenal were interested in making him their Chief Executive back in 2008.

When it comes to investment in the club, the Hoops were very active in the summer transfer window in 2019. The club roped in Christopher Jullien, Hatem Abd Elhamed and Boli Bolingoli by shelling out a total of £15.80million on transfers. They also let go of defender Kieran Tierney and got £24.30million out of his sale.

The club has already made one signing in the January transfer window. Polish striker Patryk Klimala has already been roped in for a reported fee of £3.4million.

What do we think?

Hoops fans should move on from it since the revelations from the Sun date back to 2011. It has been nine years since Lawwell potentially tried to secretly take the club into the Premier League. The fact that it never worked out should be good news for the Hoops.
