Some Celtic fans have been discussing the potential signing of Motherwell midfielder Liam Donnelly in the ongoing January transfer window.

Belfast Live has reported earlier today that the Hoops are keeping a close eye on the midfielder and could even launch a shock move for him in the ongoing January transfer window. The report goes on to state that there are other clubs that want to test Motherwell’s resolve for the player this month.

Celtic fans: Do you want Donnelly at the club?

Why do we even need him?

A Hoops-related Twitter page called CelticBible relayed the news and it got many Bhoys fans talking about Donnelly. They had varying opinions.

So far this season, Donnelly has been in impressive form for Motherwell. He has made 20 appearances in all competitions for the club, racking up nine goals and also getting two assists on the way. He has played nine games in defensive midfield, with five coming in central midfield and four coming on the right of the midfield.

The previous season wasn’t as effective for Donnelly though. He made only 11 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring once and assisting once. He played at centre-back five times last season, showing how versatile he is.

Donnelly has also previously been at Hartlepool United, where he made 61 appearances for the first-team, scoring three times and assisting twice.

What do we think?

Donnelly’s numbers show that he can be an important player for Celtic. But the Hoops seem close to completing a deal for Ismaila Soro already this month. Any potential move for the Bnei Yehuda man could mean that Donnelly may not get as much first-team football as he might without Soro at the club.
