Some Celtic fans have been left fuming by the comments of the Hoops’ boss Neil Lennon about former midfielder Victor Wanyama in the ongoing January transfer window.
Lennon was recently talking to the press and he was asked about the club potentially signing Tottenham’s Wanyama this month. But Lennon dismissed it saying that while the midfielder is in his ‘thoughts’, he is unsure about whether the club can afford to bring the Kenyan back to Parkhead this very month.
Celtic fans: Can the club afford to sign Wanyama?
He's too costly!
We sure can!
A Hoops-related page called Celtic1967. com relayed Lennon’s comments on Twitter and this left many Celtic fans baffled. They aren’t happy with Lennon.
Soro for the future, Brown is about done, Bitton bit-part, Ntcham with a Samaras attitude, CalMac not as good as some think. No ambition. To be expected

Couldn’t fit Wanyama in?….got to be joking

Another excuse,I’d put him in before Nitcham,Soto anyday

He is having a laugh!! Put him in team before anyone he mentions. Usual Celtic, not spending to secure 9 in a row….
.why are we not surprised?— Mhughes65 (@MartinH161965) January 20, 2020
“Could we afford him”… that’s concerning.

So it makes you wonder why he is “in his thoughts”…?

Lennon returned to the club last season when Brendan Rodgers had departed the club to join former Premier League champions Leicester City. Lennon returned as the interim boss at the end of February but became the permanent manager in the summer of 2019.
The Hoops have already won the League Cup this season, beating fierce rivals Rangers in the final of the competition. They face Clyde in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup and will have Copenhagen in the Round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League.
During his two stints at Parkhead, Lennon has won four Premiership titles and two Scottish Cup titles.
What do we think?
Lennon was being open about Wanyama and it is fair to say the midfielder’s wages will certainly be high, considering he plays for a Champions League finalist club from last season. Lennon doesn’t deserve stick for saying what the club can’t afford at this point.
