Some Celtic fans have made it clear that they want their club to make Mohamed Elyounoussi’s signing a permanent one as soon as possible in the January transfer window.

Reports from the weekend have stated that Southampton want the Hoops to pay £9million if Neil Lennon’s men want to sign the Norwegian on a permanent basis this month. The reports also go onto state that the Saints are keen on offloading the former Basel man, but need the mentioned fee to part ways with the player.

And Celtic fans have been left discuss the move after Celticbible shared the news on their Twitter account. They feel that the club shouldn’t turn down this chance and must pay up.

Elyounoussi joined the Hoops on a loan deal from the Saints this past summer, after his stint at Southampton hadn’t been too impressive last season.

This term, Elyounoussi has been in impressive form for the Bhoys. He has made only 13 appearances in all competitions but has contributed to just as many goals so far. He has seven goals and as many as six assists to his name this season. Since the end of November, he has been out of action due to a foot injury and will be back towards the middle of January.

Last season, he was disappointing at Southampton. He made a total of 19 appearances in all competitions, but couldn’t assist or score even once.

In his last campaign at Basel, Elyounoussi was very impressive. He made 44 appearances in all competitions while scoring 13 times and assisting 17 times too.

What do we think?

Shelling out £9million would be a record for Celtic. While Elyounoussi has shown glimpses of quality, they should wait before making a decision. They would need more games to decide if they can shell out a record fee for the Norwegian.
