Some Celtic fans have been left delighted by Neil Lennon’s comments about the club’s interest in signing Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic.
Hoops boss Lennon was asked about Benkovic recently and he talked about possibly bringing ‘one or two in this week‘. He also said that Benkovic had a ‘good impact’ at Parkhead last season for the club.
Should Celtic bring back Benkovic?
Its a no-brainer!
Never, he's overrated
These comments from the manager went viral on social media and a page called ‘CelticBible’ posted them on Twitter. Many Hoops fans read it and were left delighted by the prospect of Benkovic returning this month.
He.d be a brilliant addition. Hopefully with an option to buy

Benkovic would have been target number 1 for me. Get him in

Go for it Neil, get it done quickly. He was a great defender, solid as a rock and we haven’t successfully replaced Kieran yet. I don’t know anyone who didn’t think he was great.

If fit then it’s a no brainer…but needs to be fit. Sick to back teeth of seeing us lose players for months. R players’ bones seem to smash easier than plates at a Greek wedding!

Benkovic had joined Celtic on a loan deal in the summer of 2018, making 27 appearances in all competitions for the club. In the Premiership, he had made 19 appearances and also got two goals, getting one assist.
His loan deal came days after the Croatian had joined Leicester City on a permanent basis from Dinamo Zagreb for a fee of £13million.
While Benkovic did go back to the King Power Stadium this past summer, he has made only four appearances for the club’s senior team. He is yet to play in the Premier League, with all four appearances coming in the cup competitions.
What do we think?
As things stand, the Hoops have Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer as the regular centre-back options. Ajer has made 20 appearances in the Premiership, while Jullien has also played 20 times in the league.
Considering the time he’s getting at Leicester, Benkovic will want first-team football. Celtic may not offer that. A move may benefit the club, but not the player.
