Aston Villa fans have been pleading for the club to not make a move for Christian Benteke in January.
This comes after Villa fan Twitter account @VillaViews_ shared a post on their page claiming that Benteke would be a “perfect replacement” for the injured Wesley.
Should Villa sign Benteke to replace Wesley?
Yes
No
This post then gathered a number of replies from Villa fans who did not share the same views on the former Villa hero.
Here’s a sample of Villa fans not wanting Benteke to return to Villa Park in January:
Nope. Benteke no where near as good as he used to be.

Just give up on Benteke please He’s finished

Benteke is worse than Wesley, he’s finished and has been for some time, it’s not a bad spell of form it’s he’s done. Be the worst bit of business we’ve done under NSWE

This comes in reference to the lengthy injury first-choice striker Wesley picked up in Villa’s 2-1 win against Burnley on Wednesday. Benteke made 101 appearances for the Birmingham club during his time there, scoring 49 goals and picking up 12 assists along the way (per TransferMarkt).
This idea of a potential Villa Park return for the Belgian to replace the injured Wesley did not go down well with some Villa fans on Twitter.
Benteke looks awful these I’d love it to work but going back never does he looks finished unfortunately, we need to move forward

Benteke has hardly scored the last few season you think he will with the service we provide

Certainly do not want Benteke back. He was a disappointment in his second season with the Villa and has gotten progressively worse since. No thank you!

What do we think?
Despite the long-term injury to Wesley, it seems as though a Villa Park return for Benteke is not what the fans want to see this month. Indeed, his goal-scoring record hardly screams come and sign me, with no goals to his name this season.
