Lawrence Shankland has been linked with Rangers in the past and it has now been revealed that he could leave Dundee United for £2 million.

According to Rangers journalist Jordan Campbell (via The Athletic), Dundee are looking for an offer upwards of £2 million from a club to secure Shankland’s signature.

Indeed, this came after a fan asked the journalist about a possible move for Shankland after witnessing Jermain Defoe’s injury in the game against Ross County.

In a recent Q&A, Campbell also added that he would “like to see” the striker at Ibrox.

He was asked:

“Would you be tempted to make a bid for Shankland given Defoe’s injury tonight?”

Campbell replied:

“I believe Dundee United are looking for upwards of £2m so I’m not sure that represents great value, as much as I’d like to see him at Ibrox.”

Shankland has been on a fantastic run of form in the Scottish Championship so far this season. In 19 Championship appearances for Dundee, Shankland has managed to register 22 goals and pick up two assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).

Earlier this month, Shankland managed to score a hat-trick in Dundee’s 4-1 win over Partick Thistle.

TIF Tactics – A step up for Shankland?

While a move from Dundee to Rangers would certainly be a big move for the 24-year-old, would he get the same opportunities at Ibrox as he currently is at Dundee?

For Steven Gerrard’s side, their current strike force consists of Alfredo Morelos, Jermain Defoe and Greg Stewart (per Transfermarkt). However, Defoe was stretchered off in Rangers recent 2-0 win over Ross County with an injury after scoring the opening goal of the match.

Should this injury to the English striker force Rangers to make a move in the January transfer window to replace Defoe depending on how serious his injury turns out to be, Shankland would almost certainly be an exciting option should he be able to replicate his stunning goalscoring record in the Scottish Premiership.

With only a handful of days left remaining in the January transfer window, Rangers would have to move quickly if they want to secure Shankland’s services, although, £2 million does seem like a big fee for a player who is yet to test himself in the top-flight of Scottish football.
