Celtic veteran Craig Gordon is currently in talks with Premiership side Hearts over a possible January exit this month.

BBC Sport claim that the Tynecastle-based side are locked in talks to sign the goalkeeper, who too is keen on returning to Hearts in the ongoing winter window. The report goes onto state that the Hoops are reluctant to lose Gordon, even though he has been in talks with a Tynecastle return for the last few weeks. However, according to the Daily Record, it appears a move may not happen as the Bhoys are believed to have subbed the approach.

Is Gordon good enough for Celtic now?

The 37-year-old shot-stopper’s deal at Parkhead runs out in the summer of 2020.

Outcast in Glasgow

This season has seen on-loan Fraser Forster become a regular between the sticks for Celtic. The former England international has made 28 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops this season, keeping 12 clean sheets in total.

Gordon, meanwhile, has been far from a regular. He has made only six appearances in all competitions, failing to make a single appearance in the Premiership. Four of the six appearances have come in European competition for Gordon.

Gordon had joined the Parkhead-based side in the summer of 2014 on a free transfer after a spell at Premier League side Sunderland. Since joining, the Scot has made 242 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops, racking up a tally of 121 clean sheets and conceding 193 goals.

What do we think?

At the age of 37, Gordon, who is valued at £1.35 million (as per Transfermarkt), hasn’t been helped by his injury issues. He suffered five different knee injuries in the decade and that had caused problems in his career. He’s approaching the last few years of his career and spending them at his childhood club will bring him joy.
