Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has been urged to join Manchester United by former Premier League striker Darren Bent if the Red Devils come calling for him.

The former Sunderland, Fulham and Tottenham striker was talking to FootballInsider247 recently and he was asked about Edouard, amidst his links with Manchester United in recent weeks. Bent believes that Edouard should never reject United if they come calling for him.

The former striker said: “That’s a big step up, a humongous step up, it’s massive. Yes, Celtic are a massive club in the Scottish league but you’re talking about going to one of the biggest clubs in the world who are in the most competitive league in the world.

Celtic fans: Can you afford to lose Edouard to Man United?

“We saw Henrik Larsson come down from Celtic and do really well for United, he was brilliant, but I’m not quite sure.

“If the opportunity comes, you have to back yourself, you have to take it. Absolutely got to take it.”

Replicating Moussa Dembele

Edouard had joined Celtic from French giants Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2018 for a club-record fee of £9million. He had come to the club as a replacement for Moussa Dembele, who had left the club for Lyon that very summer.

This season, Edouard has been in impressive form for the club. He has made 31 appearances in all competitions for the club, racking up a tally of 16 goals so far. He also has as many as 15 assists this season for the Hoops.

Last season was a good one for him. He racked up an impressive tally of 22 goals in all competitions, picking up eight assists as well. He got this tally in 52 appearances. In the Premiership, scored 14 times and got six assists in 28 appearances.

He has been in impressive form for the France Under-21s side too. He has made six appearances for the team, racking up as many as 11 goals.

What do we think?

Dembele was at Parkhead for two seasons and the end of this season will see Edouard having played his second season at the club himself. Considering how many goals he has scored at the age of 21, it isn’t a child’s play for anyone. But Edouard has been showing that he has the ability to score on a consistent basis.

Celtic will make a big amount of profit from a potential sale in the future. And the manner in which they replaced Dembele with Edouard shows that they are very good at replacing strikers. However, whether the Hoops can afford to lose the forward is, perhaps, not something they can look to find out just yet.
