Spurs fans were delighted to hear that the club are reportedly leading the race to sign Ajax attacker Hakim Ziyech during the January transfer window.
According to Calciomercato (via Daily Mirror) (on Twitter via Hotspur Related), the Lilywhites are first in line to sign the Moroccan, who has reportedly been told he can leave the Eredivisie side. However, Spurs will face stiff competition from North London rivals Arsenal if they are to secure the 26-year-old’s signature in this month’s window.
Ziyech has been in fantastic form for Ajax over the last couple of seasons and was instrumental in their impressive Champions League run last season; averaging a 7.74 rating as the Dutch side narrowly missed out on a spot in the final after a famous comeback from Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs side. The Morocco international has continued that form into this year’s campaign; averaging an incredible 8.21 rating across all competitions.
Would Ziyech be a good signing for Spurs?
Yes
No

One fan even stated that Ziyech is better than Lamela, which is true when you compare the stats of both players as the Moroccan has 21 assists and eight goals to his name this season, compared to the Argentine’s three goals and three assists, as well as his injury woes.
He’s much better than Lamela.

These Spurs fans are clearly keen on signing Ziyech during the transfer window and will be hoping that the reported interest is true.
What do we think?
It is a surprise that no team took a chance on Ziyech at the end of last season considering his form and reported £26 million release clause that was available to be activated throughout the summer window. The 26-year-old would now presumably cost much closer to his current transfermarkt value of £45 million, so it would be a huge transfer for Spurs if they do convince him to make the move to North London this month.
