Spurs fans seem to have lost faith with goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga after the Argentinian once again struggled in the New Year’s Day defeat at Southampton.
The Argentinian goalkeeper has been Spurs’ first-choice since the injury to Hugo Lloris in October last year, with the Frenchman reportedly hopeful of a return to training in February. In his absence, Gazzaniga has been forced to deputise but is beginning to fall away after a strong start which included a fabulous performance away at Liverpool; which earned the 28-year-old an 8.9 rating from whoscored.
Spurs originally signed Gazzaniga from Southampton in 2017 as a back-up to Lloris, and the shot-stopper has gone on to make 32 appearances in his two and a half years at the North London club. Most of those appearances have come this season, although his spell in the team may well come to an end when club captain Lloris returns to full fitness after another disappointing display against his former side.
Should Spurs look for a new keeper in January?
Yes
No
Reaction from Spurs fans to Gazzaniga’s Southampton performance can be seen in the tweets below.
One thing hardly ever mentioned when bashing Jose is the fact he’s had to use Gazzaniga in goal. The biggest liability of the lot. The goals conceded/points columns would be significantly better with an amputee in goal the last 6 weeks. Thats before we get onto Aurier & the likes

Well I was one of the ones that wanted Gazzaniga given a chance but he has absolutely shown he is nowhere near good enough

Can only think it’s down to tiredness, although Jan looked exhausted tbh. Gazzaniga does way too little for it as well. He really is poor. I hope this “he’s better than Lloris” rhetoric has truly ended now.

Yeah good to have him back but looking at how we played yesterday, our defensive problems and Gazzaniga in goal just not feeling too confident. Not to forget to mention Kane and Ndombele possibly missing out

Get rid of Gazzaniga our worst ever keeper worst than Gomes… winks/Celso/skipp/Sessegnon/Sissoko/ Aurier the worst players to wear a spurs shirt ,,, get rid of them ,,, Gazzaniga could not save old newspapers

Why is Gazzaniga impersonating a statue as well
— Ali (@1882AIi) January 2, 2020
@SpursOfficial Not sure what Jose should do, but Gazzaniga has to go & Vorm should come in until Hugo is fit. Very hard to know what to do about the pathetic defence that’s gone a year away without a clean sheet.

Also your right about gazzaniga he’s a shocking keeper I don’t how anyone favours him over lloris

These Spurs fans were clearly less than impressed with Gazzaniga’s Southampton display and are clearly ready to see Lloris back in goal as soon as possible.
What do we think?
Gazzaniga has struggled this season; averaging a 6.7 rating which is only boosted by rare strong displays. The Argentinian has kept just one clean sheet since taking over from Lloris in January, which although he cannot be solely blamed for, is far from good enough.
