Spurs fans were surprised to hear Jose Mourinho criticise Christian Eriksen in his latest press conference ahead of the game against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.
In his pre-match conference, Mourinho discussed the form of Eriksen, saying: “If you ask me if this is the best Christian Eriksen, I have to be honest and say no. I’m not an idiot, I’ve been in football for many years. A player who is in this position, it’s normal that a player in this situation doesn’t perform at the highest level.” (via Alasdair Gold).
The Danish international has struggled to impress under Mourinho; having contributed just three goals and three assists in 24 games for the North London club so far this season. The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away, with Inter looking the most likely destination, but Mourinho continues to play the former Ajax man and also confirmed that he is likely to start the game against Jonathan Woodgate’s side on Tuesday.
Should Eriksen be dropped by Mourinho?

WHY PLAY HIM THEN
— sonaldo (@SonTwoThree) January 13, 2020
If you know this don’t play him. He has had enough chances to show you that he doesn’t care. I was willing to give him a chance to prove it was different but it is now too many 0 effort games from him to ignore.

So stick him in the reserves then

Please please stop picking him!! It makes no sense. He’s about 90% off form.

Madness that he keeps being picked, he ain’t interested!!!!!!

I just can’t get my head around why we play him then…? Those minutes could go to someone else to help the team in the future!

These Spurs fans clearly want Eriksen gone and don’t seem to understand Mourinho’s justification for playing him if he doesn’t think he is at his best.
What do we think?
It is strange that Mourinho continues to select Eriksen considering his recent comments but perhaps he is just trying to increase the interest in the £81-million rated midfielder. If he doesn’t leave this month, then it will be interesting to see how his game time is affected, considering his contract expires at the end of the season.
