Spurs fans were delighted to hear that the club have reportedly been in frequent contact with Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

According to local Italian paper Corriere del Mezzogiorno (as cited by Daily Star), the North London club have regularly been talking with the Senegalese defender about a possible £100m move to the Premier League. Spurs may want to take advantage of the current situation at Napoli, in which some players were fined half of their monthly wages in November last year.

Koulibaly has established himself as a world-class defender since joining Napoli from Genk in 2014, with the 28-year-old recently finishing 24th in the Ballon d’Or shortlist. Despite Napoli’s dreadful start to the season which has seen them drop to eighth in the Serie A table, Koulibaly has still impressed at the back; averaging a 6.99 rating in all competitions.

These Spurs fans would clearly love to sign Koulibaly, but many fear that Daniel Levy may not be too keen when he sees the defender’s price tag.

What do we think?

Koulibaly is a top defender and he would surely help to improve Spurs struggling defence, with Jose Mourinho’s side having kept just two clean sheets in the Premier League all season. The Senegalese international is valued at £67.5 million, however, so it would be a huge transfer for the North London club if they do manage to convince him to make the move from Napoli, but he may well favour a move with the Serie A side looking unlikely to qualify for the Champions League.
