Spurs fans were less than impressed to hear that the club are reportedly being linked with a move for Athletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Lemar this transfer window.
According to French news outlet Foot Mercato (via Ricky Sacks), Spurs are keen to complete the signing of the Frenchman during the window and have already opened negotiations with Athletico Madrid over his transfer.
The 24-year-old has struggled since making the move to Spain in 2018, with just three goals and six assists in 64 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side.
And, Lemar has seriously struggled so far this season for Atletico; averaging a 6.43 rating with the majority of his appearances coming from the bench. The World Cup winner perhaps needs a move away from La Liga to help him rediscover some of the form which made him so sought after during his time at Monaco.
Would Lemar be a good signing for Spurs?

Great. Another injury prone player who won’t feature. If we’re serious, we need a Van Dijk style defender to build around. Need to be prepared to spend big. £20m to £40m only gets average players these days.

These Spurs fans are clearly not happy about the interest in Lemar and will be hoping that Jose Mourinho looks elsewhere.
What do we think?
Lemar’s performances for Monaco showed that he can be a top-quality player, but he is yet to replicate any of that form with Atletico Madrid. However, with him currently injured and valued at £27 million, you suspect that Spurs could do a lot better than signing the Frenchman.
