Jose Mourinho is reportedly desperate to sell Christian Eriksen this month, to avoid losing the 27-year-old on a free transfer at the end of the season.

According to a report from the Independent, Mourinho wants to move the former Ajax man on as quickly as possible, so he can begin to plan for the future without the creative midfielder. Eriksen’s contract is set to run out in the summer, but he has been linked with a January move to Inter, although the two clubs are yet to agree on a transfer fee.

Eriksen first revealed he wanted to leave Spurs last summer, having spent nearly seven years with the club having signed from Ajax in 2013. During his time in the Premier League; the Danish international has established himself as a top-quality creative midfielder, contributing 69 goals and 89 assists for the North London club.

If Spurs cannot agree on a fee with Inter, then it seems as if Spurs will be stuck with Eriksen until the end of the season, a situation Mourinho is clearly keen to avoid, as he looks to plan for a future without the 27-year-old. Although he has been a regular under the Portuguese boss in recent weeks, his performances have not been of the level he showed in the 2017/18 season, where he was named in the PFA Premier League team of the year.

Spurs will surely be looking to reinvest some of the money hoping to be made from the Eriksen transfer into a new attacking-midfielder, although Dele Alli’s form under Mourinho suggests that Spurs may have a ready-made successor to the 27-year-old. It will be interesting to see if Spurs do manage to move the £81 million rated midfielder on this month, or whether they do end up stuck with him until the end of the season.
