Recent reports have suggested that Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea are all preparing bids for Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Lemar.

According to reports in France (via The Sun), the three London clubs are ready to bid for the out-of-favour midfielder, with Diego Simeone’s side reportedly holding out for 60 million Euros (£51 million). Since joining from AS Monaco in 2018, Lemar has struggled to establish himself as a regular in the Atletico side; making just 64 appearances for the La Liga side; having contributed a disappointing three goals and six assists.

The French international’s form this season has been less than impressive, with the 24-year-old averaging a disappointing 6.43 rating in 21 appearances in all competitions and he has failed to score. It is no surprise therefore that his last appearance came on the 22nd December 2019 and a January exit now seems likely.

Who is most likely to sign Lemar this month?

TIF Tactics:

Spurs have already brought in Steven Bergwijn this window so it would be a surprise to see them spend big on another window before Friday’s transfer deadline. With the report suggesting that Lemar would cost 60 million Euros despite his dreadful spell at the club, Spurs may well be best avoiding the Frenchman in this window.

Lemar was once rated very highly for his time at Monaco and there is clearly a talented player in there but he may be better suited to a move to either Arsenal or Chelsea this month, considering Spurs’ range of options in the wing position. Jose Mourinho’s side should perhaps instead focus their efforts on bringing in a striker to replace the injured Harry Kane before Friday’s transfer deadline.
