Tottenham Hotspur fans couldn’t believe that Alexandre Lacazette got away without any punishment after witnessing his apparent kick out at Gaetano Berardi on Monday night.
Tottenham Hotspur attacker Son Heung-min was shown a red card for seemingly kicking out at Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger last month.
The club appealed against the decision but with no success and so the fans were left furious when Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette’s similar action versus Leeds United went unpunished just weeks later.
After @_thfcaidan shared the footage of the Gunners’ striker appearing to kick out, many of Spurs’ supporters couldn’t quite believe the Frenchman escaped punishment, with some suggesting it was similar to that of the action Son made.
Was Lacazette's kick a similar offence to Son's?

League is corrupt, VAR allows the FA more match fixing possibilities, exactly like in this case

Should of been a red, more contact than Son and Beckham put together!

So inconsistent.

Definitely worse than what Son did

This league is broken. Worst officiating in the world.

So with tv evidence why not even a booking, a defo red but everyone else can get away with this and diving. Baffling judgement when this is with more intent!

What do we think?
At the very least we would like those officiating our sport to be consistent. Unfortunately, the nature of the game means situations are often interpreted differently and unless you have the same referee overseeing every single fixture, there will always be an element of inconsistency.
Alexandre Lacazette appears to intentionally kick out at the Leeds defender and the action was the subject of a VAR check. Fortunately for Arsenal, it was deemed not to be violent conduct but you can certainly see why the Tottenham fans feel aggrieved.
