Some Celtic fans were seen hijacking one of the tweets that Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama sent out, making it clear that they want the Hoops to sign the player in January.

Wanyama has been linked with a move to Parkhead in recent weeks, with the Hoops, perhaps, currently looking to add some players in midfield this month. Having said that, they have also drawn links with Slovan Bratislava striker Andraz Sporar. Cruzeiro defender Fabricio Bruno is also a target for the Glaswegian club this month.

Wanyama recently put out a ‘Happy New Year’ tweet at the turn of the year and some Celtic fans flooded the comments section.

Celtic fans: Do you want Wanyama to return?

Desperate for him!

Desperate for him!

Not good enough!

Not good enough!

They made it very clear that they want the Kenyan to return to the club in the January transfer window.

As things stand, Wanyama is out of favour at Premier League giants Tottenham. He has made only four appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites so far, with only two coming in the Premier League. Those two have been appearances from the bench. He played in the club’s game against Bayern Munich. His only start of the season came in the League Cup against Colchester United.

Wanyama had left Celtic to join Southampton in the summer of 2013 for a fee of £12.5million. After playing under Mauricio Pochettino, it was the Argentine who had brought him to Spurs in the summer of 2016 for a fee of £11million.

Wanyama helped Spurs finish second in the Premier League in the 2016-17 season, making 47 appearances in all competitions. He scored five times that season, assisting once.

What do we think?

Wanyama isn’t quite the player he used to be five or six years ago, as injuries have had an effect on his style as he has been plagued with so many issues over recent years. But Celtic need depth in the side, with Scott Brown not getting any younger and Callum McGregor, arguably, in need of rest due to accumulation of games. Getting Wanyama on a loan deal will make a lot of sense.
