Spurs fans were delighted to hear that the club has reportedly triggered the option to extend Japhet Tanganga’s contract until 2021.
According to the Athletic (via Ricky Sacks), Spurs have exercised their option to extend the 20-year-old’s contract, meaning his deal will now run out in the summer of 2021.
However, the club is reportedly still keen to tie down the academy product on a longer-term contract but can be safe in the knowledge that he will not leave on a free transfer in the summer.
Tanganga has certainly caught the eye of Spurs fans in recent weeks, having impressed in consecutive games against Liverpool and Middlesbrough.
Jose Mourinho will no doubt be delighted that he has the England Under-20 international available to him for another year, especially with long-standing centre-back Jan Vertonghen looking likely to depart when his contract expires in the summer.
Does Tanganga deserve a longer contract?

These Spurs fans are clearly delighted with the news on Tanganga’s contract, with many hoping that the club can secure him on a longer deal.
What do we think?
Tanganga has certainly shown his worth in his first two appearances under Mourinho, so it is smart business from the club to ensure that he will stay in North London for the next year at least.
