Some Southampton fans have been left in disbelief by the latest transfer update involving the situation of defender Jannik Vestergaard.
Tipsbladet (via the Mirror) recently reported that the Saints have rejected Leicester’s offer of £25 million for Vestergaard, who now looks set to stay at the St. Mary’s till the January transfer deadline day comes to an end on Friday.
Should Southampton have accepted £25 million for Vestergaard?
Yes, take the money.
We have to keep him
The central defender’s current deal at the club runs out in the summer of 2022. A Saints-related page called Saints Centre relayed the news and it left many Southampton fans surprised. They can’t believe that Leicester made an offer of £25 million for the defender.
25? Is that a typing error?

So far this season, the Dane has made 13 appearances in all competitions for the Saints. He has played 12 times in the Premier League, scoring once. That goal came against Manchester United in the Saints’ draw at the St. Mary’s early in the season.
Last season, the defender made 26 appearances in all competitions for the club. He couldn’t score a goal, but 23 of those appearances came in the Premier League for the side.
Vestergaard has joined Southampton from Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2018 for a fee of £18 million.
What do we think?
While Leicester were offering a huge fee for the defender and that is very tempting for Southampton, they can’t replace the player with such a short time left for the January transfer deadline day. He might not be a regular defender currently, but they might feel the need for him soon.
